At the same time, head of Uzbekistan’s parliamentary delegation Tanzila Narbayeva held talks with the leaders of the parliaments of Tanzania and Belarus on expanding bilateral cooperation.
The general debate focused on strengthening effective governance and expanding opportunities for communities through inclusiveness, trust and equal opportunities. Discussions centered on strengthening public trust in state institutions, increasing citizen participation in decision-making and enhancing the role of parliaments in delivering concrete and positive changes in people’s lives.
Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, outlined Uzbekistan’s efforts to implement the principles of a social state, reduce poverty and strengthen the legal foundations of social policy. She also presented the country’s experience in improving legislation and strengthening parliamentary oversight of state policy implementation.
Uzbekistan proposed more fully taking into account the views of the public and representative bodies at the local level when drafting legislation, assessing state programmes and budgets from the perspective of equal opportunities, and directing parliamentary oversight toward the practical impact of adopted decisions on people’s lives.
Particular attention was also given to the resolution “Strengthening the Role of Parliaments in Social Development”, adopted by the UN General Assembly on Uzbekistan’s initiative. The document is aimed at increasing parliamentary responsibility for social development, ensuring equal opportunities and human well-being.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Narbayeva met with Moussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania. They discussed prospects for developing political and interparliamentary ties, as well as expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation. The Tanzanian side expressed readiness to accelerate the adoption of the draft Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Tanzania. The sides also agreed to establish cooperation groups in the parliaments of the two countries.
Narbayeva also met with Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. They discussed the current state and prospects of interparliamentary cooperation, regular parliamentary dialogue, legislative experience-sharing and interaction within international parliamentary structures.
Aleinik expressed appreciation for the high-level organization of the Fourth Uzbekistan-Belarus Interparliamentary Forum, held in Khiva on September 29–30. Work has already begun on a plan of concrete measures to implement the agreements reached, including preparations for the next Uzbekistan-Belarus interparliamentary forum, planned to take place in Belarus in 2027.
