During week-long negotiations in Brussels, the parties reached an agreement on the services sector. This marks a new stage in Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO. Negotiations on goods are still ongoing and are expected to conclude in the coming months.

This agreement is an important milestone in Uzbekistan’s WTO accession process, with the European Union expressing full support for the country's membership. This development will contribute to the country’s economic growth and enhance its participation in international trade.

The Uzbek delegation is now heading to Geneva, Switzerland, to continue negotiations and discuss key steps towards WTO accession.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reaffirmed his firm commitment to WTO membership, emphasizing that Uzbekistan is implementing significant reforms to align its trade preferences with international standards. At the same time, the government remains committed to supporting entrepreneurs and fostering a fair competition environment.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, Uzbekistan aims to join the WTO by 2026, ahead of the 14th Ministerial Conference in Cameroon. So far, negotiations with 21 countries have been successfully completed. Further negotiations are ongoing with Russia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other nations.

Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO will undoubtedly strengthen its position in the global trade arena, attract foreign investment, and expand its export potential. Once this process is successfully completed, Uzbekistan will become a full-fledged member of the global trading system.
