Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov’s official Mercedes-Benz car has been replaced with a Malibu. This change was made following the President’s directive. From now on, other officials will also switch to using locally produced vehicles as their official cars.
On March 5, during a meeting dedicated to combating corruption, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need for government institutions to switch from foreign-made cars to vehicles produced in Uzbekistan.
"Some suggest implementing this from March 20 or April 1. No, that won’t do. If the President has given an order, we must execute it immediately. This is the government’s main task," the Prime Minister stated during a videoconference on March 7.
It has been reported that Senate Chairwoman Tanzila Narbayeva and Speaker Nuriddin Ismoilov have switched to Chevrolet Tahoe, while Deputy Prime Ministers have opted for Malibu, and regional governors have moved to Tahoe or Traverse.
Foreign-made cars owned by government institutions will gradually be put up for sale through the "E-auksion" online auction platform.
