Venezuelan interim authorities plan to deliver 30–50 million barrels of sanctioned oil to the United States. US President Donald Trump said he would personally oversee the funds from the sale to ensure they are used for the benefit of the people of Venezuela and the United States.

“I have instructed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute this plan immediately. The oil will be shipped by vessels to storage and unloaded directly on US territory,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Venezuela holds the largest oil reserves in the world but produces only about 1 million barrels per day, far below the US daily output of 13.9 million barrels in October 2025. At roughly $56 per barrel, the US could earn up to $2.8 billion from the sale.

The Trump administration also demanded that interim President Delsi Rodriguez sever economic ties with Russia, China, Iran, and Cuba and cooperate exclusively with the US in oil production and sales.

On the night of January 3, the US conducted a military operation capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Sila Flores, transporting them to New York. Maduro faces charges of narco-terrorism, cocaine trafficking, and preparation of armed actions against the US.

Following the operation, Trump declared that the US would manage Venezuela until a safe, orderly, and lawful transfer of power is achieved. Interim President Delsi Rodriguez was sworn in on January 5, with full access to national resources, and Trump warned that failing to comply could have serious consequences.
