The convergence of the geopolitical platforms of Russia and the Southeast Asian nations, grounded in shared moral values and the recognition of cultural diversity, is emerging as a pivotal element in shaping a new international security architecture. At the opening of the jubilee Russia–ASEAN summit, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of bilateral relations, Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the distinct role of this interstate alliance. According to the Russian leader, amid global turbulence, the strategic partnership between Moscow and the association serves as a vital stabilizing factor in the Asia-Pacific region.
The three-day summit and its accompanying Business Forum are scheduled to facilitate a comprehensive exchange of views on the most pressing issues of the regional and international agenda. During a bilateral meeting with the Sultan of Brunei, the Russian President specifically highlighted the parties' commitment to the principles of sovereign equality and strict non-interference in the internal affairs of other states. The negotiating process involving the 11 ASEAN member states (including Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) is expected to lay a solid foundation for diversifying trade and economic ties and deepening multi-vector cooperation over the long term.
