Vladimir Putin congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the presidential election

The Azerbaijani President expressed gratitude for Mr Putin's attention and congratulations. The Kremlin has so far refrained from any comments.
During the telephone conversation, the two heads of state emphasised confidence in further development of allied and strategic relations between Russia and Azerbaijan in various fields. They also discussed prospects for co-operation.
Ilham Aliyev won the early presidential election in Azerbaijan on 7 February. According to official data, after counting more than 93% of votes, Aliyev received the support of 92% of voters with a turnout of 76.73%.
