Two drones have fallen on Finnish territory. The Air Force confirmed that one of them is a Ukrainian AN-196. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo believes the drones likely went off course due to Russian signal interference.
On Sunday, two drones fell near the southern Finnish city of Kouvola. The Ministry of Defense classified the incident as a “suspected territorial violation.”
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated that the drones most likely belong to Ukraine and may have strayed off course due to Russian electronic interference. He noted that Ukraine recently carried out attacks on Russian territory along the border with Finland.
Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen emphasized the seriousness of the situation: security services were dispatched to investigate. According to the Ministry, “several slow, low-flying objects” were observed in Finnish airspace on Sunday morning. An F/A-18 Hornet fighter was deployed for identification.
The Finnish Air Force reported that one drone fell north of Kouvola and the other to the east. Police cordoned off the areas for investigation. Later, the Air Force confirmed that one drone is a Ukrainian AN-196, capable of flying 1000–2000 kilometers. The ownership of the second drone has not yet been disclosed.
The investigation is ongoing, and Finnish authorities promised to provide details once all information is verified.
