US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington realized a deal with Iran was unattainable during the second round of negotiations, while the third meeting was viewed as a final opportunity.

In an interview with Fox News, Witkoff stated that the United States sought a fair agreement but concluded by the end of the second round that a compromise was unlikely. Nevertheless, the US delegation agreed to a third round to give Tehran one last chance.

The two sides held three rounds of talks on Iran’s nuclear program. The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The third round concluded on February 26.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran. Reports indicate destruction and civilian casualties. Iran responded with strikes on Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
