Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected a US proposal linking security guarantees to a withdrawal from Donbas, calling it dangerous and unacceptable.

Zelensky Rejects US Conditions on Donbas
In an interview with Reuters, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the administration of Donald Trump is pushing for Ukraine to withdraw troops from parts of Donbas under its control in exchange for security guarantees.

According to Zelenskyy, this idea is being shaped in discussions between Russia and the United States: Ukraine leaves the region, receives guarantees, and the war ends.

He stressed that such a move is politically and morally wrong and would weaken Ukraine’s defensive lines in the east.

Zelenskyy added that withdrawing from Donbas would pose risks not only for Ukraine but also for Europe, and that a failed peace process could have consequences for the United States as well.

As an alternative, he proposed a high-level meeting involving all parties to address the two key issues — territories and security guarantees — noting that the US holds the main leverage as a mediator.
