Mark Zuckerberg, head of Meta, has revealed that the U.S. government pressured the company to censor content related to COVID-19 during the pandemic. Zuckerberg expressed regret that Meta complied with these demands. During the pandemic, Facebook, owned by Meta, removed over 20 million pieces of content deemed to be misinformation.

Zuckerberg Reveals U.S. Government Pressure on Meta
According to Zuckerberg, in 2021, senior officials from President Joe Biden's administration repeatedly pressured Meta teams to censor specific content related to COVID-19, including humor and satire. He stated that this pressure was wrong and regretted that the company wasn’t more transparent on the issue.

Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta is ready to resist such pressure in the future and will not compromise on content standards. "We must uphold our principles despite government pressure," he said.

During the pandemic, Facebook took drastic measures to remove posts considered to be misinformation, resulting in the deletion of over 20 million pieces of content. Zuckerberg acknowledged the company’s regret for succumbing to government pressure but emphasized that the pressure itself was misguided.

These statements by Zuckerberg have sparked discussions, especially in light of the recent arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France. Elon Musk commented that Zuckerberg is not at risk of a similar arrest because he "censors free speech and grants governments access to user data."
