This fact was confirmed by UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric at a daily press conference.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), humanitarian workers in the region have analysed satellite images to assess the impact of Israeli attacks on educational institutions.
Of the 563 school buildings in the Gaza Strip, 162 were directly hit, representing about 30 per cent of all schools, and 26 schools were completely destroyed.
According to the spokesman, some 175,000 students and 6,500 teachers were affected and at least 55 per cent of schools in the Gaza Strip require complete reconstruction or repair.
