Yesterday marked 78 years since the atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As a result of this explosion, about 70% of Hiroshima was destroyed, 200 thousand people died. On this occasion, a commemorative ceremony was held in Japan.
A commemorative ceremony was held at the Peace Memorial Park in the center of Hiroshima to mark the 78th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. At 08:15 local time, a minute of silence was declared throughout the country, and the explosion took place on August 6, 1945.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida noted that the path to a world without nuclear weapons is becoming increasingly difficult due to rising tensions and conflicts.
“Now it is important to motivate the international community to return to building a “World Without Nuclear Weapons,” Kishida said.
Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui, in turn, said that world leaders must take urgent and concrete action to eliminate the nuclear threat.
For reference, on August 6, 1945, a nuclear attack was carried out on Hiroshima, and three days later, on August 9, American planes dropped bombs on Nagasaki. The "little boy" atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima destroyed about 70% of the city.
The explosion destroyed everything within a radius of 1.5 km, the air temperature in the center of the explosion reached three thousand degrees. Immediately after the explosion, 80 thousand people died, and by the end of 1945 the number of victims reached almost 200 thousand.
