A new phase in poverty reduction: Mirziyoyev's strategy

Uzbekistan

A videoconference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has begun, focusing on taking poverty reduction efforts to a new level. The meeting reviewed the progress made in the fight against poverty and outlined future plans.

A new phase in poverty reduction: Mirziyoyev's strategy
Four years ago, 7.5 million people, or 23% of the population, were living below the poverty line. Despite the population growing by 3.7 million since then, the poverty rate has been significantly reduced.

By the end of 2023, the poverty rate was reduced to 11%, achieved by enabling 3.5 million people to earn higher incomes.

The social protection coverage was expanded from 466,000 families to 2.2 million. In 2022, 12.3 trillion UZS was allocated for these purposes, and pensions and benefits were increased by 1.5 times.

These efforts show the government’s determination to enter a new phase in fighting poverty, further strengthening its social protection policies.
