On March 27, the head of state was briefed on the progress of tasks aimed at developing nuclear energy.

A Nuclear Power Plant Will Be Built in Uzbekistan
As a result of numerous energy projects, electricity production in the country has increased by 30% over the past five years, reaching 81.5 billion kilowatt-hours. To meet the growing demand, renewable energy sources are also actively developing, now accounting for 16% of total generation. Last year, an additional 3.2 gigawatts of capacity was introduced.

It is crucial to plan for the future and lay the groundwork now. According to forecasts, electricity consumption in Uzbekistan will reach 121 billion kilowatt-hours by 2035. Therefore, measures are being taken to develop the energy sector in all directions.

Specifically, by 2030, the share of "green" energy in total generation is planned to exceed 50%. In the long term, nuclear energy is expected to become one of the country's primary energy sources.

Currently, work is underway on a project to build a small-scale nuclear power plant. Meetings of working groups have been held to discuss the feasibility of implementation and to develop a "roadmap."

A Joint Action Plan for 2025–2027 has been developed in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Every stage of the future plant’s construction—from design to completion—will be under the strict supervision of the IAEA, incorporating the world’s best practices and safety standards.

At the meeting, officials provided updates on the project's progress and negotiations with partners. Issues related to obtaining permits, financing, as well as the technical and economic aspects of constructing a high-capacity nuclear power plant were reviewed.
