A Secret Underground Tunnel Found at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan Border
Uzbekistan
Criminals were involved in smuggling oil products through a secret underground tunnel at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border. The responsible authorities reported that the criminal group's activities were halted, and the underground tunnel was destroyed. This was announced by the Turkistan Region Prosecutor's Office.
The group members dug a 450-meter-long tunnel at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border. Through this tunnel, 5-7 tons of fuel products were illegally smuggled every day.
The illegal activity lasted for about two months. Special operations identified all members of the criminal group, some of whom were citizens of Uzbekistan.
Similar operations were carried out by law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan near the state border. Furthermore, a scheme for transferring funds for the exported fuel from the neighboring country was uncovered.
Members of the transnational criminal group were arrested not only in Kazakhstan but also in Uzbekistan. The preliminary investigation into the criminal case is currently underway.
