The Presidents of Uzbekistan and France have announced an important step in the development of strategic relations. During an official meeting in Samarkand, the two presidents discussed prospects of cooperation in various spheres.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron met in a narrow format at the Samarkand Congress Centre.

The meeting underlined the importance of the first visit of the French leader to Uzbekistan in the last three decades, which testifies to the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The Presidents stressed mutual support and readiness to work together on reform and modernisation programmes in Uzbekistan.

They noted with satisfaction the multiple growth of trade turnover and the number of joint ventures. The portfolio of active and promising investment projects has exceeded 10 billion euros.

A €1 billion strategic cooperation programme is underway with the French Development Agency.

The leaders discussed prospects for expanding co-operation in trade, investment, green energy and tourism. They also discussed France's support for Uzbekistan's efforts to strengthen peace and security in Central Asia.

The two sides also expressed their intention to deepen cultural ties and expand educational cooperation, which contributes to mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and France.

The sides agreed to speed up the establishment of an Uzbek-French university in Tashkent and expand cooperation in the field of training French language teachers.
