An American "Pilgrim" Released from Prison in Syria

29-year-old American Trevis Timmerman had been detained in Syria, but with the intervention of U.S. military forces, he was released from prison and left the country. According to U.S. officials, the evacuation operation was successful, and Timmerman is now in a safe place.

An American "Pilgrim" Released from Prison in Syria
Timmerman had traveled to Syria seven months ago "for psychological reasons" with the intention of visiting the country. However, his journey ended with his arrest. After his disappearance, the case remained a mystery: he was last seen in Budapest in August, and since then, his search had been initiated by Hungarian police and Missouri state officials.

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Timmerman was found in a prison in Damascus. He reported that he had not been subjected to violence, but he had heard the screams of other prisoners. Initially, he refused to communicate with U.S. officials, but later agreed to the evacuation.

Some local journalists had mistaken Timmerman for American journalist Austin Tice, who had been missing in Syria for over ten years. However, this assumption turned out to be incorrect — Tice's fate remains unknown.
