President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has dispatched an official congratulatory message to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following the victory of his "Civil Contract" party in the snap parliamentary elections. The Uzbek leader characterized the electoral outcome as a direct reaffirmation of the public's profound trust in Pashinyan’s strategic course toward securing long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus, while expressing firm confidence in a substantial expansion of bilateral economic and political cooperation.
The June 7 parliamentary elections in Armenia carried monumental weight, unfolding against the backdrop of an unprecedented diplomatic rift between Yerevan, the Russian Federation, and other EAEU member states. Despite ultimatum-like demands from the leaders of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan to hold a referendum on whether the country should remain in the economic bloc—coupled with Moscow's explicit warnings of severe economic repercussions—Pashinyan’s "Civil Contract" retained its grip on power by securing 49.81% of the vote. The primary opposition bloc, "Strong Armenia," led by Russian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, finished a distant second with 23.29%, while former President Robert Kocharyan’s "Armenia" bloc garnered a mere 9.94%, sealing a decisive electoral defeat for pro-Russian factions.
