Diplomatic ties between Tashkent and Addis Ababa were established on July 15, 1996; however, a permanent representative has been designated for the first time in three decades. Currently, an expedited entry regime via electronic visas (E-visa) is available for citizens of Uzbekistan planning business or tourist travel to this East African nation. For Ashraf Khodjaev, this appointment broadens an extensive diplomatic mandate: he has headed the Uzbek Embassy opened in Doha since February 2024, and since October 2025, has concurrently served as the accredited Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa.
