President Joe Biden has signed a law prohibiting the import of Russian uranium into the United States, the White House reports.
The statement reported that on Monday, May 13, 2024, the president had signed the 'Russian Uranium Import Ban Act,' which prohibits the import of unenriched low-enriched uranium produced in the Russian Federation or by a Russian enterprise.
In turn, President's national security adviser Jake Sullivan stated that Biden's signed ban will help strengthen the "energy and economic security" of the United States by reducing "reliance on Russia for civilian nuclear power."
According to the US Department of Energy, Russia supplied nearly a quarter of the enriched uranium used in over 90 commercial reactors in the United States, making it the number one foreign supplier.
