US President Joe Biden said that he had decided on the response to the strike on the US base in the area of al-Tanf on the border between Jordan and Syria. At the same time, he did not clarify what kind of retaliatory measures the US might take. However, Biden emphasised that Washington does not seek to expand the conflict in the Middle East.

Asked whether he considered Iran responsible for the attack, Biden said, "Yes, I do hold them [Iran] responsible in the sense that they're supplying the weapons to the people who did it."

John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications on the White House National Security Council, spoke about the anticipated response to the strike on the U.S. military base in a little more detail. "And it is very possible that what you'll see is a tiered approach here, not just a single action, but essentially multiple actions," he told reporters.

The day before, Politico reported that Biden had instructed his advisers to present several options for a US response to the attack on the Jordan base. At the same time, the President set a condition: Washington's response should not lead to further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
