US President Joe Biden will not face charges for knowingly possessing classified documents, the Justice Department has said. Special prosecutor Robert Hur said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against Biden, describing him as "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

Secret documents were discovered at Biden's Delaware home last January, some dating back to his time as a senator and others to his time as vice president. After the discovery, the documents were turned over to the National Archives and the Justice Department.

The investigation included interviews with numerous witnesses, including Biden himself. The DOJ report said the President's actions posed a risk to national security, but filing criminal charges was not considered a reasonable step.

Joe Biden welcomed the decision, calling the matter closed, while representatives of Donald Trump's campaign, who himself has been the subject of allegations of mishandling classified documents, expressed sharp dissatisfaction.
