Borrell says hunger being used as 'war arm' in Gaza

Israeli authorities are using hunger as a weapon of war in the Gaza Strip, not allowing humanitarian aid to arrive in the enclave in the necessary volumes. This was stated by the head of the foreign policy service of the European Union Josep Borrel.

Borrell says hunger being used as 'war arm' in Gaza
During his speech at the UN Security Council meeting, he said that 100,000 people are on the verge of starvation. Humanitarian aid must go to Gaza, and the EU is doing its utmost to do so. “And when we look for alternative ways of providing support – by sea or by air – we have to remind that we have to do it because the natural way of providing support through roads is being closed, artificially closed. And starvation is being used as a weapon of war" he said.

Borrell noted that a two-state solution is needed to achieve peace in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. "And on that, the European Union is ready to cooperate," he added.

It should be noted that the war in Gaza began on 7 October, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking 253 hostages. Since then, more than 31,180 people have been killed in Gaza. Weeks of talks involving U.S., Qatari and Egyptian mediators have failed to produce a cease-fire or a hostage exchange deal.
