The leader of the FIDE and Elo ratings in nine games at the Norway Chess tournament suffered one defeat and drew eight times. At the same time, he won seven victories in Armageddon (a kind of fast chess). As a result, he took sixth place. The first was the American Hikaru Nakamura, reports RBC.

Carlsen has been leading the rating of the International Federation (FIDE) since 2011. In terms of the number of months at the head of the rating, he is second only to Garry Kasparov — 156 against 255. Its peak rating of 2882 (January 1, 2010) is the highest in history.

At the moment, he is the only chess player with a rating above 2800. His closest pursuer Alirez Firouzja, representing France, an Iranian, has 2786 points. In the entire history, only 14 chess players have managed to reach the mark of 2800 points.

Carlsen has held the world champion title since 2013, but this year he refused to defend the chess crown for the second time against Russian Yan Nepomnyashchy. The Russian lost the championship match to the Chinese Ding Lizhen on April 30.
