Catastrophic Flooding in Australia

For the third consecutive day, northeastern Australia is grappling with devastating floods triggered by unprecedented heavy rainfall. Some areas have recorded nearly 600 mm of rain in just 24 hours, equivalent to an entire summer’s worth of precipitation. The hardest-hit cities—Townsville, Ingham, and Cardwell—are experiencing dangerously high water levels.

In Ingham, a woman tragically lost her life after a rescue boat capsized. The other passengers were successfully saved. Authorities have received hundreds of emergency calls, and rescue teams conducted 11 urgent evacuations in the past 24 hours.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed condolences to the victims' families and assured that the government will provide all necessary support. Meteorologists warn that despite a slight decrease in rainfall, the situation remains critical, and the threat of further flooding persists.

According to weather forecasts, heavy rains will continue for several more days, while river levels are expected to remain dangerously high. Authorities urge residents in affected areas to stay vigilant, follow safety precautions, and be prepared for potential evacuations.
