CCA Tashkent to Present Programme of Tours, Workshops and Performances on September 6

On September 6, the Center for Contemporary Art in Tashkent (CCA Tashkent) will hold its first public opening day, featuring a programme of tours, talks, poetry readings, workshops, film screenings, live performances and music. The programme will focus on the “Hikmah” exhibition.
The day will begin at 11:00 with two parallel events. Little CCA Tashkent Makers: Clay and Dolls, inspired by works by Kimsooja and Ali Cherri, will invite children aged 3–5 to explore clay, doll-making and storytelling. At the same time, Dr. Sara Raza will lead a curatorial tour of “Hikmah”. Additional tours with CCA Tashkent mediators will take place at 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00.
At 13:00, the library will host poetry readings for audiences aged 12 and above, introducing Uzbek poetry classics from historical works to contemporary literature. The programme will place the poetry in dialogue with the imagery and ideas of “Hikmah”.
At 14:00, visitors can choose between the “Flying Carpets” sculpture workshop and a film programme dedicated to Kimsooja and Ali Cherri. The workshop will explore material, scale, movement, space, architecture and collective memory. The cinema programme will feature the first two chapters of Kimsooja’s “Thread Routes”, focused on textile traditions in Peru and Europe, as well as Ali Cherri’s “Digger”, which follows the daily life of a guardian of ancient ruins in Sharjah.
At 16:00, two programmes will run in parallel. On the Main Stage of the Diesel Station, Avaaz, a project conceived by CCA Tashkent resident Attiya Shiraz in dialogue with an installation by Nari Ward, will bring together vocalists from the Yunus Rajabi Institute. At the same time, the workshop space will host an upcycling session for participants aged 12 and above.
At 17:00, artist Nadia Kaabi-Linke will join Dr. Sara Raza, curator of “Hikmah”, for a conversation about her artistic practice and Flying Carpets (2015), presented in the exhibition. The discussion will focus on architecture, memory, migration and the social histories embedded in spaces and materials.
The evening programme will conclude at 20:00 in the CCA Tashkent courtyard with Shashmaqom: The Method. The programme approaches Central Asian musical traditions as a living form of knowledge, combining elements of traditional music with contemporary performance practice.
