Changes in Prices in Uzbekistan in 2024

According to the data from the Statistics Agency, the official inflation rate in the country for the year was 9.8%. While some products became cheaper, others saw significant price increases.
Cheaper products: Rice (6.3%), wheat flour (3.9%), sugar (3.7%), and eggs (7.3%).
More expensive products: Beef (13.3%), lamb (14.6%), sunflower oil (14.6%), cotton oil (15.3%), and kefir (6.6%).
There were also changes in the prices of fruits and vegetables: tomatoes, lemons, and cucumbers became cheaper, but the prices of potatoes, carrots, and onions increased from 1.4% to 39.9%.
Energy Resources and Housing Services
One of the major factors affecting prices in 2024 was energy resources. Specifically:
Natural gas: Increased by 129%.
Electricity: Increased by 67%.
Propane and methane: Increased by 30.9% and 21%, respectively.
Other housing services also saw price increases:
Hot water supply (32.1%), waste collection (54.7%), and heating systems (36%).
Transport and Ticket Prices
Transport services also saw significant price increases during the year:
Train tickets increased by an average of 12.6%, while urban train fares increased by 40.1%.
Taxi fares increased by 12.2%, while airfares remained relatively stable, increasing by only 1.2%.
Medical and Educational Services
Price changes were also noted in the medical and educational sectors. From April 1, 2024, the removal of VAT exemptions for medical services and medicines led to sharp price increases in this area:
The price of medicines increased by 26.2%, dental services increased by 12.4%.
The cost of education in state universities increased by 15.1%, while in private universities, it rose by 0.5%.
These changes are expected to be among the main issues and directions of economic policy in 2025.
