Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian made the statement during a press conference. According to him, the Philippines is planning to purchase a missile system from the United States. China has repeatedly expressed strong opposition to the deployment of American medium-range missile systems in the Philippines.
Referring to "Typhon" as an "offensive weapon," Wu Qian emphasized that the agreement between the Philippines and the U.S. to deploy missiles directly leads to geopolitical confrontation and exacerbates regional tensions.
He pointed out that this is not a personal matter for the Philippines, as it affects the overall security of all countries in the region.
"History and reality have repeatedly proven that where American weapons are deployed, the risk of conflict increases," the Chinese defense official stated.
"We call on the relevant parties to immediately remove the medium-range missile system 'Typhon,'" Wu Qian said, stressing that if the U.S. and the Philippines continue their actions without considering the consequences, China will take decisive countermeasures.
