The opening of the representative office of the global banking giant CitiBank in Tashkent can be an important signal for international investors.
The representative office of the Turkish branch of one of the world's largest banks - the American CitiBank - has been officially accredited in Tashkent. This was reported by the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.
According to the regulator's statement, the new structure will be engaged in studying the local financial market, as well as establishing cooperation with government institutions and banks. This could be the first step towards the bank's more active presence in the country's economy and participation in regional projects.
CitiBank is a global financial corporation represented in more than 180 countries, providing investment, banking, and management services to private and corporate clients. The representative office in Uzbekistan will work on behalf of the Turkish CitiBank A.Ş.
The bank's possible entry into Uzbekistan became known back in 2023, when President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Citigroup Board Chairman John Dugan discussed cooperation prospects.
