Competition Committee Warns Hajj and Umrah Pilgrims

Uzbekistan

According to the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights, recently, advertisements have appeared on the internet and social networks offering Umrah trips at low prices by firms that do not have the necessary licenses and permits. Such cases result in citizens being deceived, losing money, and—most seriously—facing problems abroad.

Competition Committee Warns Hajj and Umrah Pilgrims
For example:

The companies "Panorama Airways" and "Gulbakhor Airways" caused damage totaling 25 billion Uzbek soums to 2,558 pilgrims.

An employee of the "Bilolbek Travel" LLC branch in the Jarkurgan district of Surkhandarya region, N.J., fraudulently took 14 million 900 thousand soums from a citizen.

In the same company's Boysun district branch, an employee named A.S., having gained the trust of citizen H.M., fraudulently took 2,200 US dollars.

Law enforcement agencies have taken legal measures in connection with these cases.

For reference: activities related to organizing Umrah pilgrimages are carried out based on the Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 364 dated June 7, 2017, and No. 668 dated October 12, 2024. Furthermore, according to amendments adopted on July 2, 2024, Umrah-related services have been designated as a separate type of licensed activity.

As of today, only 12 official tour operators have the right to carry out such activities, and they operate based on an official list. Providing such services without a license is strictly prohibited.

If citizens encounter such cases, they are advised to call the trust line at 1159.
