COVID-19 takes up to 20 years off the life of the human brain

A team of scientists led by Benedict Michael, Director of the Infection Neuroscience Lab at the University of Liverpool, has conducted a study showing that COVID-19 can accelerate the aging process of the human brain by 20 years.
The study was conducted in 2022 and found that 46 per cent of patients who had contracted the coronavirus experienced symptoms of "brain fog" such as fatigue, memory and concentration problems.
The 351 patients with severe COVID-19 showed signs of long-term brain damage one year after infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The scientists noted that brain deficits equal 20 years of brain aging.
