“Do You Really Believe Ukraine Should Remain Outside NATO?” — Zelensky
World
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told a defence industry forum held as part of the NATO summit that his country’s military capabilities should become a key argument in discussions over Ukraine’s membership in the alliance.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian air defence systems intercept more than 90 percent of Shahed-type drones. He also highlighted the rapid development of Ukraine’s drone industry and its ability to conduct long-range strikes against targets inside Russia.
“Do you really believe that a country with such defence capabilities should remain outside the alliance?” Zelensky asked forum participants. He said Ukraine in NATO would provide “extraordinary defence capabilities”.
The Ukrainian leader also referred to the Drone Deal initiative, which allows partner countries to obtain Ukrainian unmanned systems.
Zelensky described ballistic missiles as Russia’s remaining major advantage and urged Europe to strengthen its missile defences. He stressed that air defence missiles remain Kyiv’s main priority: “We can handle everything else ourselves.”
