Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, granted an interview to Tucker Carlson, an American journalist. Tucker Carlson posted a segment of this conversation on his new Telegram channel.

Durov gave an interview to Tucker Carlson – Key points
Durov mentioned that American intelligence services have shown increased interest in his activities and attempted to recruit one of his technical employees.

Durov said that the last time he was in the US, he was accompanied by an engineer working for Telegram. He stated that cybersecurity officials had tried to secretly hire him behind his back and had attempted to convince him to use certain open-source tools, which he would then implement into Telegram’s code. He explained that this would have allowed the U.S. government to spy on Telegram users.

Durov himself also faced pressure. Specifically, FBI agents met him at the airport in the US and at a house he rented. According to him, the American intelligence services want to learn more about Telegram.

At the same time, the founder of the popular messenger service dismissed claims about the messenger being controlled by Russian authorities as far from the truth. He believes such rumours could be the machinations of competitors trying to curb Telegram's growth.

Durov explained his choice of the UAE due to the ease of doing business there, the effectiveness of the tax system, high-quality infrastructure, the country's neutrality, and zero pressure from the authorities.

Durov also stated that the greatest pressure his messenger faces is not from governments but from companies like Apple and Google, which, according to him, can censor everything accessible via mobile phones. Both companies, he says, are not prone to compromise and make it clear that Telegram will be excluded from app stores if it does not comply with their rules, many of which are highly politicized.

Despite this, Durov compared Telegram's development to a forest fire and predicted that the messenger's audience would exceed one billion within a year. The platform now has about 900 million users.
