Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed authorities to accelerate digital transformation in agriculture, including satellite monitoring, smart water meters, and drone deployment — all aimed at boosting productivity and ensuring food security.

On July 31, President Mirziyoyev held a meeting focused on digitalizing agriculture and expanding the use of satellite data.

Over the past two years, satellite monitoring has covered more than 4 million hectares of farmland. It revealed discrepancies: fields reported as planted were in fact idle, and some land plots lacked legal documentation.

The government will introduce remote monitoring of state-funded agricultural loans and implement contour-based water accounting. Outdated irrigation norms and water zoning systems will be revised, as over 3,000 farms downstream are left without adequate water.

A bathymetric analysis of 60 major reservoirs found that sedimentation has reduced storage capacity. Smart meters and online monitoring systems will be installed to address this.

By the end of the year, a unified platform — “Digital Agriculture” — will be launched. Farmers will be able to input crop data, access services, and receive state support.

More than 100 drones will be imported this autumn, and private companies will be engaged to provide drone services to farmers.
