Trump threatens Russia with new sanctions and declares US is ready for nuclear war
Political
During a White House briefing, President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum: if Russia and Ukraine fail to reach a peace deal by August 8, the US will impose “the harshest sanctions” on all countries trading with Moscow. While he admitted this wouldn't end the conflict instantly, he believes it would push negotiations forward.
Trump escalated his rhetoric by ordering the deployment of two US nuclear submarines to regions near Russia, saying, “When it comes to nuclear weapons, we must be ready. And the US is fully ready.” However, he added that he hoped tensions wouldn’t escalate further, as America prefers trading with Russia over confrontation.
The statement sparked intense reactions in the US. Daryl Kimball, head of the Arms Control Association, warned that no leader should threaten nuclear strikes. On social media, many Americans criticized Trump for being emotional and immature, while analysts said this was a show of strength aimed at undermining Europe’s influence.
Trump also lashed out at Obama and Hillary Clinton, claiming they must pay a “high price” for allegedly fabricating the 2016 Russia interference scandal. Regarding Putin, he remarked, “He’s a tough guy — and my view of him hasn’t changed.”
