E-cigarettes May Be Banned in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan
According to a draft law submitted to the Oliy Majlis, Uzbekistan plans to prohibit the circulation of certain types of tobacco and nicotine products, including e-cigarettes. The draft law outlines the following measures:
A ban on the production, storage, transportation, or sale of e-cigarettes;
Strict measures against their import and export to and from the republic;
Establishing administrative and criminal liability for violations of these rules.
The law's initiators state that the circulation of illegally imported e-cigarettes is on the rise. Additionally, their growing popularity among young people is a major concern.
A ban on e-cigarettes has already been implemented in neighboring countries:
Kazakhstan: On June 20, 2024, a law came into effect prohibiting the import, sale, and advertisement of e-cigarettes and tobacco products.
Kyrgyzstan: As of October 23, 2024, the country has banned the import, sale, and use of e-cigarettes under a law aimed at protecting public health from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine substances.
Why Are E-cigarettes Being Banned?
E-cigarettes were initially promoted as an alternative for quitting smoking. However, their composition, which includes nicotine and other harmful substances, poses significant health risks. Specifically:
Popularity Among Youth: E-cigarettes increase the risk of attracting young people to tobacco products.
Health Hazards: Their vapor contains toxic substances that can harm the respiratory system.
