A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, killing more than 800 people and injuring nearly 2,800, according to official reports. The death toll is expected to rise further as rescue teams reach remote villages.
Kunar province, the epicenter of the quake, suffered the heaviest damage. Many houses were destroyed, communication lines were disrupted, and access for rescuers remains difficult.
