Ecuador’s Incumbent President Wins the Election
Political
In the recent presidential election in Ecuador, the current head of state, conservative Daniel Noboa, claimed victory. His opponent, center-left candidate Luisa González, announced that she does not recognize the results of the vote.
Daniel Noboa won in the second round of the election, securing over 55.5% of the votes, while González received less than 44.5%. These results were published on the official website of the country’s Central Election Commission on Monday, April 14, after 96.75% of the ballots were counted.
According to the election commission, more than 11.1 million citizens participated in the election, making up over 83% of the electorate.
Luisa González called the election results "the most disgusting fraud" and a "dictatorship," demanding a recount. She made her statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Daniel Noboa was first elected president in October 2023, at the age of 35. His initial term lasted only 1.5 years because the previous president, Guillermo Lasso, resigned early amid impeachment threats. Noboa completed that term and has now been elected for a new four-year term.
