Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed gratitude to Russia and Azerbaijan for their assistance in combating massive wildfires that swept through Turkey in July. The Be-200 amphibious aircraft provided by Presidents Putin and Aliyev were crucial in extinguishing the flames.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the timely support provided through the Be-200 amphibious aircraft, which played a key role in fighting the wildfires in Turkey. He emphasized that this aid was instrumental in preventing further destruction and in swiftly containing the blazes.
According to Erdogan, the support helped Turkey respond quickly to the fires, which affected thousands of hectares of forests, agricultural lands, and residential areas. He also highlighted that such cooperation between nations not only strengthens bilateral relations but also underscores the importance of joint efforts in tackling natural disasters.
The situation with wildfires in Turkey was exacerbated by strong winds, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, personally welcomed the Russian aircraft that arrived to assist in early August. The amphibious aircraft is expected to remain in Turkey until the end of October to support in case of new fire outbreaks.
