Explosion in Sergeli district leads to four arrests
Uzbekistan
During the investigation into the causes of the Sergeli accident, it was found that the fire and explosion originated in a warehouse constructed of metal and sandwich panels. As a result of the fire and explosion, the metal structures of the warehouse deformed and collapsed. This is stated in a statement of the Government Commission.
It is noted that in the warehouse where the fire occurred, a large amount of chemicals, construction and other products were stored in mixed form without compliance.
Chemical tests based on samples from the scene showed the presence of chemicals such as polyesters, xylene, hydrocarbons, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, ethylene glycol and high molecular weight carboxylic acid esters.
These substances are components of hydrogen peroxide, alkyd resin, alkylbenzenesulfonic acid, latex, polyester resin, caustic soda and lacquer products stored in the warehouse and are considered fire and explosion hazards.
"On inspection of the scene, it was discovered that it was near the hydrogen peroxide storage area where wallpaper and other flammable materials were stored. The study showed that the explosion occurred due to the interaction of chemicals and materials stored in the warehouse and "chemical spontaneous combustion," - stated in the message.
On this fact the investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated a criminal case under paragraphs "a" and "b" of part 2 of article 259 of the Criminal Code. In the criminal case, the measure of restraint "imprisonment in custody" was applied to 4 persons, and "bail" was applied to 1.
