Zelensky expresses readiness for direct talks with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced his willingness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in person, suggesting the meeting take place on May 15 in Turkey.
This offer came in response to Putin's statement on May 11, where he proposed resuming direct peace talks in Istanbul without preconditions, as initially discussed in 2022.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly supported the initiative, urging Ukraine to agree immediately. In a Truth Social post, he wrote that even if no deal is reached, the West will at least better understand the situation.
“If a deal is possible, great. If not, leaders in Europe and the U.S. will know what steps to take,” Trump stated, ending his post with: “MEET, NOW!!!”
Zelensky, for his part, said he expects a full and lasting ceasefire — something he believes is crucial to launch diplomatic efforts — and confirmed he awaits Putin in Turkey on Thursday.
