Tourists have received urgent warnings after four holidaymakers died and several others went missing due to the extreme heat.

Many tourist sites, including the Acropolis, have shut down. Authorities have issued a level three alert, advising residents to work from home and avoid strenuous outdoor activities.

The north-west coast of Crete recorded the highest temperature at +44.5°C.
