The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be held for the first time by countries located in three different continents, namely South America, Africa and Europe. According to the decision announced by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on October 4, the championship matches will be held in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

In 2030, the FIFA world champion will be determined for the hundredth time in history. The championship is expected to open in Uruguay, which hosted the first World Cup in 1930. As FIFA president Gianni Infantino explained, the match will be played "where it all began", the famous Estadio Centenario in the capital Montevideo.

"Then there will be matches in Argentina and Paraguay, then matches in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. “In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting,” said Infantino.

Initially, three South American countries, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina, wanted to host the 2030 World Cup together. However, FIFA rejected this application.

The plan to hold the World Cup on three continents, announced on October 4, still needs to be approved at the FIFA Congress in July 2024, but experts are calling the move a formality.
