According to the prosecutor’s office, billionaire Elon Musk and X CEO Linda Yaccarino are expected to appear for questioning on April 20, 2026. The probe, launched in January 2025, follows complaints from a member of the French parliament and a senior government official who alleged that the platform’s algorithms may have been used in the interests of foreign actors.

Authorities said the investigation is “constructive in nature” and aims to ensure compliance with French legislation to the extent that the service operates in the country.

Between April 20 and 24, company employees will also be questioned as witnesses. Searches are being conducted at the offices of X France during the same period. The French unit handles public relations, while the platform’s legal entity is registered in Ireland.

Amid the searches, Telegram founder Pavel Durov criticized the actions of French authorities. In a post on X, he wrote that France “criminally prosecutes all social networks that give people even a bit of freedom,” mentioning Telegram, X, and TikTok.
