How did the negotiations between Putin and Trump go?

Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to halt attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for 30 days following a crucial phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump. However, he refused to agree to a full month-long ceasefire.
According to the Kremlin’s statement, Putin said that a full ceasefire was impossible unless Western countries stopped providing military aid to Ukraine. The Russian leader also demanded an end to Ukraine’s military mobilization. Additionally, Putin insists that Ukraine abandon its bid to join NATO and grant Russia full control over the territories annexed in 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he supports the outcome of the phone call but is waiting for further details of the agreement. He emphasized his intention to meet with the U.S. president to discuss Russia’s specific demands.
Trump praised the talks, writing on Truth Social, "We agreed to an immediate halt to attacks on energy and infrastructure. We will work towards a complete ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to this terrible war."
However, shortly after the call ended, air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv, and air defense systems were activated to counter Russian drones. According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia launched over 40 drones, one of which struck a hospital in the city of Sumy.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated, "Right now, both sides have weapons pointed at each other. Declaring a full ceasefire is complicated because Russia currently has the advantage. About 2,500 Ukrainian soldiers are surrounded. That’s not good. We want to end this war as soon as possible."
At the same time, Trump denied reports that Russia had demanded an immediate halt to military aid for Ukraine, stating that the issue was not discussed at all.
The phone conversation between Trump and Putin raised concerns among European nations. While the UK and the EU are preparing new military aid packages for Ukraine, Russia’s demand for a ceasefire without military support is seen as an unacceptable condition for Western countries.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the halt of Russian attacks a "good start" but emphasized, "There can be no agreement without Ukraine."
The UK government welcomed the negotiations but stated that their outcome must lead to a fair and lasting peace for Ukraine.
