At the opening ceremony, an address from the President of Uzbekistan to the participants of the conference was read aloud. The President's address emphasized that, in the current conditions where the negative effects of climate change and the shortage of traditional energy sources are becoming increasingly evident, the peaceful use of atomic energy is an important alternative solution for improving the quality of life and implementing national development strategies.

It was also expressed that the introduction of advanced atomic energy technologies will give a strong impetus to the country's development and create opportunities for transitioning to an innovative economy through new scientific and technological developments.

For this purpose, the country has strengthened the legal and institutional foundations of the sector, established a special agency, and implemented a system for training highly qualified specialists in the field.

Uzbekistan is one of the first countries in the world to start the construction of small-capacity nuclear power plants in accordance with international standards and requirements.

The President thanked the International Atomic Energy Agency for supporting Uzbekistan's initiatives in this field.

The Samarkand conference is expected to serve as an essential platform for developing concrete recommendations and practical proposals for the effective use of peaceful atomic energy to achieve sustainable development goals, and the participants were wished success in their work.
