Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov appointed Minister of Agriculture

Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov will become the new head of the Ministry of Agriculture. This was announced by the press secretary of the President.

Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov was born in 1975 in Chust district of Namangan region. In 1992-1997 he studied at Tashkent State University (now NUUz). In 2001, he graduated from Texas Agricultural and Technical University in the United States.

Abdurakhmonov worked at the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology of the Academy of Sciences in 2002-2012 as a researcher, senior researcher, project manager, and laboratory project manager at the Centre for Genomic Technologies. In 2012-2017 he was Director of the Centre for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Academy of Sciences, in 2017 he worked as Acting Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences in the field of chemical and biological sciences.

In November 2017, he was appointed head of the new Ministry of Innovative Development.

In December 2022, by presidential decree, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education and the Ministry of Innovative Development were merged, and from January 2023 Abdurakhmonov headed the new Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.
