Investors from Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Korea to Build Ultra-Modern Airport in Capital Region
Business
The construction of Central Asia's largest ultra-modern aviation hub will elevate Uzbekistan's transport and logistics potential to a world-class transit level, ensuring the reception of all aircraft types under any weather conditions. On the sidelines of the fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF-2026), Uzbekistan Airports JSC and the Saudi company Vision International Investment signed a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement for the construction and operation of the "New Tashkent" International Airport. The project, with an initial phase valued at approximately $3 billion, will be executed by a consortium of leading companies from Saudi Arabia, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Under the terms outlined by the Ministry of Transport, the new facility will be transferred to the private partner's management for a term of 35 years.
The massive complex, spanning 1,310 hectares, will be developed between 2026 and 2030 within the Urtachirchik and Kuyichirchik districts. The new passenger terminal will be four times larger than the current capital airport's facility: its initial capacity will reach 20 million passengers annually, with a long-term target of 46 million. The infrastructure includes two independent runways for simultaneous operations (enabling over 30 takeoff and landing operations per hour), more than 160 aircraft parking stands, 40 jet bridges, as well as smart digital systems for check-in and baggage processing. To integrate the hub into the national network, dedicated road and rail links will connect the airport directly to the capital and the country's regions.
