Iranian Protesters Claim Control of Two Cities
World
According to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), protesters have taken full control of Abdanan and partial control of Malekshahi in western Iran. Ali Safavi, a member of NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told Fox News that residents celebrated on the streets, chanting: “Death to Khamenei!”
However, Iranian state media outlets Tasnim and Mehr deny these reports, stating that the security forces have restored order and the cities remain under local authorities’ control.
According to the human rights organization HRANA, 36 people have died during nine days of protests — 34 demonstrators and 2 security personnel. More than 2,076 people have been arrested.
The protests have lasted over a week and are marked by mass demonstrations, clashes with security forces, and heavy crackdowns.
