The ongoing confrontation between Israel and Hamas has entered another phase. On February 25, the Hamas movement announced an agreement to return the bodies of four hostages to Israel in exchange for the release of 602 Palestinian prisoners. This exchange is expected to take place with Egypt’s mediation.

Although this agreement has humanitarian significance, its implementation remains complex. On February 23, Israeli authorities announced a temporary suspension of the release of Palestinian prisoners. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified this decision by accusing Hamas of conducting humiliating ceremonies during the handover of Israeli hostages.

Additionally, on February 22, Hamas released six more Israeli hostages and declared that the first phase of the agreement had been completed. On the same day, Israel was supposed to release 602 Palestinian prisoners, but in the evening, Hamas announced delays and accused Israel of grossly violating the ceasefire agreement.

According to the current agreement, by March 2, a total of 25 Israeli hostages are expected to be released, along with the return of the bodies of eight deceased hostages. It remains uncertain whether this exchange will contribute to peace in the Gaza Strip. However, there is hope that this step will help reduce tensions between Israel and Hamas in the near future.
